Finished this Hawken up
« on: January 17, 2015, 10:14:19 AM »
This one came as a .50cal/12g shotgun combo kit. I built the .50cal up and already have it sold. So now the next project is to finish up the 12g and get her ready for grouse season.  :IBCOOL:

I did a ton of polishing on the lock internals as well as the triggers. I added a heavy duty trigger spring so when you squeeze it, there's no squeeze, its just is firm and then snaps like a piece of thin glass.

Rear sight is one of my favorites off a Marlin/Savage/Winchester 3030. I like to go to the first notch, sight in dead on at 100 yards and typically, you can you that elevator sight out to 200 yards. It just all depends on your load and how you have it sighted in.

I have one more stock to do, a CVA Frontier with maple stock and some custom engraving, so that to will eventually get fitted with a barrel and re-worked.

Good winter so far!

I have one of those kits, but mine has a 50 and a 54 barrel.  It is an OLD kit, maybe someday I will put it together and it will look as sweet as yours.

Great work! I have a lot of respect for anyone with the patience to get that quality of finish.

Do you have any pictures from along the process? Did the kit come with the stock or is that your carving work?

Nice job mtdevil.  That stock has some nice figuring.  The whole gun looks top notch!  Wish I could find a fixer and make it look as good as yours!

The original stock that came with the package was ruined by some moron with a file and lack of skill LOL. I bought a replacement kit stock and did my own file work to this one. Nothing but wood removal and keeping the lines factory.

After removing all the excess wood.

noooo I tired of tung oil after I did one stock. Way to many coats needed before it started to take.

15 thin coats of TruOil.
