Stealthcam 550
« on: December 25, 2008, 10:30:41 AM »
I just got a stealthcam 550 for Christmas.  It is my first trailcam.  Does anyone currently use one of these?  I am wondering how they work for a first timer like me.  I can't wait to get in on the action onthis board.

Your not the only one.  I got the exact same trail camera for Christmas.  It is my first trail camera as well.  These were just a couple pic's I snapped out my front door when i was messing around with it.  I don't have any day time pic's yet.

The temp is off because the camera was only outside for about 3 or 4 minutes.

That doesn't look too bad.  I haven't had time to take mine out of the box yet.  I was waiting to see what people said first.   But I think I can live with those types of pics.  I can't wait to set it up.

Inside pic's don't work to well.  The flash will white them out pretty good.  I took some but took them off the card.

Camera was pretty easy to set up.  The book will take you through it in order.  It's pretty nice.  Only thing I am concerned about is battery life.  It is also equipped with an external battery port for the use with their 12V battery pack.  I am not sure if that means you will need it or it's just an extra.

Camera only takes 6 "C" batteries.  I will try and get some more pictures with the camera.

I have 2 of them, and they are both in the feild right now. During the cold the batteries should only last for a couple of weeks. I have seen that they have a slow trigger speed so make sure you aim them down the trail. Picture quality is good, I found that if you put it on burst mode that it eats batteries faster, so i only use a single picture mode. I used during general season and the batteries seemed to last about 3-4 weeks. My cams have been out for about a month know hope i can get to them some time next week. Also not to bad for the price!!!!!!!

I was finally able to dig my driveway out today, so it looks like I am heading to town for those batteries.  Can't wait to take some pics.

I got my batteries and here was my first test.  I think these will do just fine for what I want to accomplish.  Now I am going to figure out how to mount this without it getting stolen.

Go to their wesite.  I think I read in the book or on the package that they have a locking system for it.

Camo it up good with Liquid Nails, then paint it, then moss/brush it in good when you hang it.  If you do it well, you should have trouble finding them yourself when you go back to check them  ;)

Thanks for the tip.  Did you use the locking system from the website or a self made deal?
