so has anyone considered the cons to this? like how would you strip someone of this right for lets say poaching? right now if you violate game laws you can be stripped of the privilege but if it is my "right" as a citizen of the united states of America your going to need to pass further legislation as to how i can be stripped of this right. i know felons can be stripped of there right to bear arms but as far as i know right now most poaching is not a felony.

also can my rights be regulated by individual states in there season setting process? one could easily construed that (with the help of a lawyer of course) as there rights being violated or infringed upon. thus forcing the need for further legislation, and where would all the money come from for this time and legislation? from our liscance fees that are supposed to go to conservation?

that brings up another issue, can you charge me for my "right" to hunt? don't get me wrong i think your heart is in the right place but things like rights need to be looked at through the prism of the world we live in. sometimes the juice isnt worth the squeeze...

 :yeah:

Its already a right. God granted us natural rights.  Every living thing on the planet has the right to feed itself and all animals have the right too seek out food the way a plant has a right to grow roots in search of nutrients. Government was established to protect those rights. Our government no longer recognizes our rights.....any rights. They certainly wont recognize this right or any other that are not already enumerated in our constitutions. I like it.....but i also dont need some bloated overpaid suit to grant me permission to excersize my rights. I play the extorsion game with them to avoid problems but if i could not for some reason i certainly would not stop hunting.   It is your right.

:yeah:  If all your doing is keeping your belly full of meat thats actually fit to eat I agree. Corn fed beef and battery chickens are not fit to eat, unless you want to make those tortured, sick cells part of your body.

I just think adding rights, any rights to the constitution is not a concept to be taken lightly just because the abject matter is in your best interest. For example should driving be a right? I garantee more people drive cars than hunt. Also I don't see a ton of support for the already in place example of "right to hunt" in tribal hunting. I'm guessing you guys don't all think that's the best system for maintaining the health of our game/sport, at least not from the responses I've seen in other threads on the topic. Again I understand the gesture and desire but it's a little deeper issue than a one paragraph long initive

I've TRIED 3 TIMES TO SIGN UP AND IT ISN'T REGISTERING
And as mentioned before it already is a God given right that has had so many restrictions placed on it that people have forgotten the difference between rights and privileges

Actually, you do also have a right to travel. These days we travel on wheels. Cars bikes and such, and you do have a god given right to that too. And government did what governments do by calling it a privelage and selling your right back to you.(extorsion).  That being said, others have a rightto defend themselves from you if you endanger them while they are also traveling.   Our rights were granted to us by a higher authority than men who wear dresses or wigs. Our founding documents declare it as well.

18 States guarantee the Right to Hunt and Fish in their constitutions, BH45 i would study those states provisions and rewrite yours for next time.. :twocents:

fastdam, you have the Right to travel, but driving a vehicle on any public roadway is a privilege..
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

It is part of your Right to Travel, but it is prevented to us by violent force if we dont pay our captors for a license to excersize that right. Try to come and go across the international borders without your papers and see what happens.  Every single right we have has been eeduced and sold back to us at a price to some degree. We are in bondage.

There are many rights that haven't been listed in the Constitution, like right to privacy or right to choose to abort a pregnancy.  Those are covered by the ninth amendment.  The amendment means that many rights exist in addition to the rights listed in the Constitution.

The Ninth Amendment was cited for both the right to privacy and the right to have an abortion.  It could be leveraged in a similar way to clarify the right to hunt and the right to fish and hopefully the right to sufficient amounts of fish and game in good condition.

To clarify possible proposed rights to hunt, fish, and trap in Washington; it would not allow citizens to hunt, fish, and trap game species anytime and anywhere they want to.  Typical good wording of such constitutional rights might be close to what has been recently proposed in Texas:

"The people have the right to hunt, fish, and harvest wildlife, including by the use of traditional methods, subject to laws or regulations to conserve and manage wildlife and preserve the future of hunting and fishing. Hunting and fishing are preferred methods of managing and controlling wildlife. ..."

Message from the petition link - Interesting.

"An error has occurred

Sorry, there is a technical problem and this petition cannot be signed right now. Please try again in a few minutes."

 :twocents:
The petition is a good effort, but something like this might need more of a push from national organizations to ensure the word gets out there.  It is likely most people don't know this petition is there and the March 15th deadline will come very quickly.  One also might wonder when, how often, and how long the "technical problem" with the petition web page is blocking signatures.

State level efforts are likely to be more effective with close attention given to planning, outreach and education, the political landscape, established support from state legislators, and timing.  We need to keep this on our radar and study what other states have done to make hunting, fishing, and trapping Constitutional rights.  Study the wording used in other state Constitutions and find out how they effectively marketed the idea and overcame the anti-hunting propaganda (lies) that likely was disseminated during the campaign for the rights to hunt and fish in those states.
