Lake Washington Smallmouth Bass
« on: February 22, 2015, 08:53:40 PM »
Yesterday I was fishing on Lake Washington with my friend. We fished near the UW trolling rapalas. If you could deal with the constant tangles, you were periodically rewarded with fish.

The big one was 5lbs on the scale and 19.5 inches. Water was 49 degrees and many fish in the 20-30 foot range right on the bottom.

awesome !!!!
A remarkable experience is one where the pain is forgotten so quickly, the frustrations and struggles are forgotten the minute you’re done.

I can’t wait to do it the next time.

Nice fish.

I just got a kayak a couple months  ago.  NOT a sit on top.  What do you use to hold your rods and gear in your kayak?  I keep seeing a lot of stuff for fishing from SOT kayaks but not much for trad. kayaks.  Do you wear a spray skirt or use a spray deck or just keep an open cockpit?

Beautiful smallies! A 5 lb smallie is a great fight. I thought I'd be a pro bass fisherman at one time. Haven't fished for bass for years.

I have a 17'6" sea kayak. It's ideal for almost any fishing condition such as rough ocean on Cape Flattery at Tatoosh Island, surf launches, rivers like the upper Cowlitz or the Sol Duc and of course any lake. The market is saturated with SOT kayaks and they are good boats but I found them very limiting. Anyway, I do use a spray skirt in windy conditions or rough water. The deck I created is mostly PVC and a little plastic netting. It can hold a limit of salmon or bottomfish. Photo for reference below... The RAM mount bases I just drill the holes and make sure to back it underneath with something solid - I used pieces of an old cutting board and some Marine Goop to hold it in place best.
