I would of shot between the second and third photos. Based on the tree location in pic #2 he turned pretty hard right to get behind it in pic#3. At that point I would of released.  So for me its easy, the pic not shown is my choice. :chuckle:

Being that close with good cover. I would do a cow chirp with a diaphragm and pull back when his head is down and I bet he would lift his head and look strait at you , and since your only 25 yards away man you could send one right in the jug. I get touching vanes at 20 and being in a relaxed state and haven't been hiking at all it seems like a good shot. I don't like shots next to trees because Ive made the mistake of  saying "all good" and twang, snap and all the elk go giddy goo goo every where. :bash: I most certainty don't have enough experience to make the best decision but that's what I would try.

That bull is dead at either spot . Draw and cheep for the frontal or slip one right behind the shoulder lowwer half of the body. Done dead elk

I'm not really liking any of those shots (that's the idea behind the questions). But I might take Lamrith's shot on the second photo and would be at full draw for the third photo hoping for a wee bit more turn as he steps with his left front leg.

what?that angle is fiNE at close range but I'd hold back two inches and a bit lower . Middle of one luno and back of other , same effect as quartile away except your almost guaranteed  a exit hole

I think if you're gonna call you better be at full draw when you do it.  At that distance that elk will look right at you and burn holes through your soul.
With 10 minutes left i sit and wait let him make the mistake.  If you force something and get busted he's gone.

Exactly. At that range, I draw and see what he does next. Maybe a shot presents, maybe not. I'm not sure calling at all is a good idea. No shot as it is, period. So wait it out.

Looking at the last couple pics, yeah- for sure. Not the first angle though.

in that second pic you get more than one lung , you can get both, or if your to far back  one plus the liver.the only way I'd pass was if it was pouring down rain.hit him and cow call. Make the last spot you see him and sit an hour quietly. If you got buddies then back out and round up the crew. Packs in the dark are so much fun !
