Price.  Kevlars (kvs) are/were much more expensive.  Not sure on the specs though.

Can someone tell me the difference between the maxima hunters and the maxima mathews hunter kv's?

Probably the biggest difference now is that the KV's are no longer in production and the Hunter is.

Both are Dual spine, weight forward designs with Gordon Bowtuff fibers in the front half.  Both have the same camo application, but the Mathews KV has Mathews trademarked Lost Camo.  The real difference is that the KV has a thin wrap of Kevlar between carbon layers.  Making it one of the toughest all carbon arrows to hit the market.  The addition of the Kevlar also creates an ever so slightly stiffer spine - 330 for the KV and 337 for the Hunter.  The Hunter is also available in a 450 (.298-.300 spine) which to my knowledge the KV never was. Carbon express always advertised the 350 Hunter and the 350 KV weighing the exact same at (8.9 grains per inch), but I never found that to be true with any of the shafts I've had in each style.  My shafts have always worked out to be 9.04 gpi in the Hunter and 9.82 gpi in the KV.

Odd thing for me has been that I actually liked the KV shaft better.  Even though I found fewer weight and 360 degree spine issues with the Hunters.  Once I culled the "B" shafts from the "A" shafts I felt as though the KV was a more forgiving shaft.  Whether that was due to the Kevlar, the additional wrap, the extra weight or the stiffer spine I never evaluated deep enough to determine.  All I know is that like the Easton ACC Pro Hunter one of my all time favorite WA legal shafts is no longer in production.  And that makes me very, very unhappy! >:(

Hope that was enough of an answer your question.

He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

Here is a "B" culled Maxima KV 350 after driving a prototype Titanium ferrule 1/2" into a concrete barrier block at 290 fps (Shot with no blades in the ferrule).  Every other inserted all carbon shaft I've used completely explodes on this type of test.  I'd show you Axis, Gold Tip, Beman and Victory shafts too, but I can never find all the pieces.  And I refuse to do such a thing to my ACC Pro Hunters as I've never had a "B" cull of those.  And now that they are not available... >:( >:( >:(  :bash: :bash: :bash:

This test proves nothing other than ferrule integrity on angled impacts, but I thought it could also give some insight into just how tough those KV's are too.

They don't look very pretty when you pull them out.  Can't get them to stick with just any arrow shaft.  Shaft need to keep some integrity as well.  So probably has more to say about shafts than it does about broadheads.

Good chance that will be the arrow I shoot in Washington too.
