Montana online apps up 20%
« on: March 13, 2015, 01:30:54 PM »
Did anyone receive the email stating that online apps were up 20%? I wonder if that correlates to overall applications or just online. The "say" that there might not be many surplus licenses this year. Guess we will soon find out.

I got it, I'll bet there are plenty of surplus licenses available come September.
The things that come to those who wait, may be the things left by those who got there first!

We couldn't see donating almost $33 for me and my buddy when we're already paying almost $600 for a deer license.  Not when I can send the paper Apps. in for the price of a stamp.
Look man, some times you just gotta roll the dice

Just received my elk license last week.  I would bet $100 with anyone and everyone that there will be surplus available this year, next year and every year after.  If you read the notes from meetings and reports, it is purely a financial game.  If they had a choice of one guy paying a million bucks for his license or the current system, they would take it.  Out of state licenses are all about pricing them for maximum income regardless of who gets shut out.  For most, the fewer that buy, the better.

Then, after you buy it you can the warm welcome by the locals who don't seem to understand that out of state licenses pay something like 90% of the license money taken in.

The local businesses always are friendly, but the legislators and hunters would prefer you just sent your money in and then stayed home.  I'm going to check out Wyoming in addition this year to see if it is a better experience.

We submitted online this year.  We always sent mailed them in, I have no idea why we didn't submit online in years past?

With Montanas liberal general season and number of tags given, competition is incredibly high, no matter how far into the back country you go. People tend to keep pretty tight lipped about their spots around here, and for good reason. It still amazes me how many times I've been asked by residents and non residents alike where I've been getting into elk or where I shot my elk at etc. Sorry I'm just not going to tell you. No one told me where to go and I was mislead a number of times and I still do pretty good.

Translation-we are feeding you a line of bull so you will apply and pay money for a useless preference point.  I quit Montana for good this year and won't ever go back until they change their ways.  $580 for a state with virtually no high end trophy potential?  How bout no!
