Dialing in my Optima
« on: March 20, 2015, 01:40:19 PM »
Got my truglow front sight installed the other night and with beautiful weather today, I set up my "new" shooting table at 50 yards.

Swabbed between shots and used the CCI Inline MZL primers as they are cooler temp wise.

80gr Pyrodex Select
405gr Powerbelt Flat Points

Swabbed with Birchwood Casey muzzle magic cleaner and it did excellent at removing the Pyrodex fouling with just one damp patch.

Darn that shot #2!!  And yes, the cleaning patch shows all that soft lead I pulled out of the bore with just the patch! Should be fun cleaning it out later.

Now to switch over to the 385gr hornady great plains conicals.

Cool! I'll have to try that Muzzle Magic Cleaner. I never get that much fouling between shots, though I don't usually shoot PowerBelts and I also use Hogdon Triple Seven instead of Pyrodex. I have the same rifle except with thumbhole stock. It's such fun to shoot!

Sweeeet!! This is the same old load I used to use in my Winchester X-150 back in the day!

80gr Pyrodex Select
CCI Inline MZL primers
385gr hornady great plains bullets
50 yards.

Hole is 5 shots and my final adjustment shot. I think i'll have to go at least 3" high at 50 to be close to dead on at 100.

Check this nugget out! I dug through the log my target is stapled to and pulled out a huge mass of the GP bullets all in a smashed together chunk of lead.
