The Battle at Picacho Pass (2015)
« on: March 24, 2015, 06:56:17 AM »
Military trivia of the day: The Civil War made it as far west as Arizona. The Confederates, seeking to establish more territory westward, set up a garrison in Old Tucson with hopes of pushing as far west as the Kalifornia coast. The Union's ever more plentiful forces eventually quelled these ambitions, but not before taking a licking at Picacho Peak, somewhere between old Tucson and Phoenix. Like the Battle of Antietam, though the unions losses were heavier, the Confederates also wound up pulling from the area. Every March so many reenactors show up for a two day party that there are more people to stage battles than actually fought in the original battle. So they brought in a few from New Mexico's Civil War history.

Here's a sample of this years festivities. C&C always welcome.  :hello:

Very cool pictures Bean, it looks like you are getting to experience some pretty cool stuff.  I wasn't aware the civil war made it that far west, I guess you learn something new everyday.

Thanks all for viewing.

Yeah I can't imagine a trip to the MTF back then being much better than a trip to Dr. Kevorkian. What on earth would a surgeon do for your GSWs in the days before a blood transfusion or even isotonic crystalloids?

Legend also has it that the retreating Confederates, on their way back to New Mexico, armed their Union captives as they were constantly harassed by the Apaches as they crossed the Chiricahua Mountains.  :o
