H414 for .308.......who would have thunk it!!
« on: March 29, 2015, 11:43:21 AM »
Was struggling to make a load for my Remington R25.  Tried Varget, CFE .223, ect.  Tried 165 / 168 and 150 grain.  Finally found a load with CFE.223 pushing a 150 grain accubond that was acceptable....but not great.

Well, lying in bed I thought to myself...why not my H414?  The next day I was back at the rang with two loads worked up.  Both shot good, but the 48 grains H414 pushing the 150 grain accu bond was down right scary accurate.  5 shot groups sub one inch out of the R25....DONE!!!!  I have my load.  I will take pics next time I am at the range, but this thing is wicked accurate.

Anyone else load .308 with h414??  if not and you are thinking about working a laod....you may give it a try.

I had a pound of H414 that's been sitting on my shelf for months that I had never used. I ended up throwing it into some 30-06 cases to try in a Rem 742. Sure enough it shot about 1.5 MOA, which is pretty darn good for that gun (or any 742 for that matter!). I don't even remember why I bought that powder!

Good to hear that the R25 is shooting so well. 1 MOA is pretty good for a gun like that in my book, especially for 5 shots.

Best I could do with any other powder was 1 1/4" to 2" groups.  Half the people I talked to said that would be the best I could do....the other half swore the gun would shoot sub 1".  I was almost ready to sell the dumb thing.....when all of a sudden the H414 gods spoke to me..LOLOLOL   I should have taken a picture....5 shots 4 cutting the same holes and one 1/4" outside the others.  Amazing!!!!!  Took it to 200 yards and held sub 2" groups.   This thing can shoot.....Just loaded up 50 rounds today and may take it bear hunting at the end of the week.

jrebel, when you load up a round and check it against your chrono what kind of variances do you get between rounds?i shot 10 6 were dupes another member said that was very rare and cause to think it was wrong.so i wonder how rare is it to have rounds that are coming up as close as 5-10-15 fps apart?

ok thats why im thinking that a duplicate must be some kind of variance if a shot is close like 15 fps it just calls it a dupe dont know.how close are rounds that you build usually?

I bought H414 when I started reloading.
It works well in both 7-08 and 300WSM.
And it is one of the temp-tolerant powders.

Working on my LR308 right now. Took it out this weekend and had some issues with the bolt stop hanging up causing feed failures. So its off to the internet for parts. I'm also thinking about building another upper with a 18" barrel to cut down on weight so its always good to have load data! Thanks JREBEL!!!
