Looking for a holster
« on: April 16, 2015, 09:01:14 PM »
Looking for a light weight, comfortable holster to pack my .357 in on hikes and backcountry hunts. I believe it's a 4" barrel. Any suggestions?

Hip or waist holsters are really a pain when carrying a pack.  I find a shoulder holster works much better and is easily accessible when wearing a large pack with a load bearing waist belt.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Make mine a Minaska

I use a Uncle Mike's nylon , both my day pack and back pack have a 2" secondary belt incorporated in the waist belt so I can put the holster where I want . Also switch from right to left side.

I was hesitant to try it at first but after some use I'm a firm believer that a HPG Kit Bag is among the best ways to carry a sidearm in the backcountry. Works especially well if you have a backpack on also.

What do you do with your binoculars?? I've heard people say this before but often wondered where the Binos go.

:yeah:........exactly what I carry my 4" 629 in while backpackin'/hiking.  Works great, easily drawn when desired, quiet, dries out fast when wet, doesn't mold or get damaged by the elements, the snap/strap feature greatly reduces the chances of unknowingly cocking your firearm while also keeping your revolver securely holstered and padded just enough to protect your firearm from unintentional misuse (falls and such).

I have used mine for years and am quite pleased with all of it's attributes.  This is one product that is worth well more than I paid for it, especially since it seems to be essentially bulletproof/indestructible.

Thanks for the suggestions I will definitely check out the uncle mikes nylon holster.

I should have stated this will be attached to the waist strap on my pack, not on my belt.

I usually don't but on the rare occassion I do take binos they usually go in a daypack. Tried the chest carriers for binos long before I ever even heard of a kit bad and never liked them. Never needed quick draw access to optics in the hunting I usually do.

I'd sooner have a pistol inside my backpack than my optics when I'm hunting. Especially backcountry. I mean, I already have a rifle.

Like I said I dont carry binos that often, when I do it's for spot and stalk stuff so I have time to get things set up. If that costs me an animal in some way so be it, if I end up in a situation where I need a pistol I'm not going to have time to find it in a pack.
