Mt. St. Helen's Noxious Weed Control volunteer opportunity
« on: April 18, 2015, 10:52:43 AM »

I received this in an email from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation:

Quote
Greetings RMEF Volunteers,

Below please find an opportunity to volunteer in the Mt. St. Helens Mudflow Unit.  There are three, two-day volunteer projects coming up to help remove noxious weeds from the mudflow area.  You do not need to sign-up for both days or all projects in order to help so please check your calendars and register today!  We are looking for at least 26 volunteers each day so invite your friends, too.

What: Mt. St. Helen's Noxious Weed Control
When: May 1st and 2nd (sign up for one or both days).  Additional work parties will take place on June 5th/6th and July 10th/11th.
Where: Mt. St. Helen's Wildlife Area
To Register: http://wdfw.wa.gov/about/volunteer/events/  Scroll to the bottom of the list to register for any of the weed control projects.  There is no registration code for this event, but you must be registered as a volunteer on the CERVIS system.

WDFW is looking for at least 26 volunteers per day to help control scotch broom, and mouse-ear and yellow hawkweed, on the 2,400 acre Mudflow Unit, of the Mt. St. Helens Wildlife Area, located along the North Fork Toutle River. These non-native invasive weed species can greatly reduce the quantity and quality of forage on the area needed for the wintering elk herds that frequent the area from November through April. Methods used to control these weeds will include cutting, hand pulling, and the use of herbicides.

Dry camping is available for volunteers. For more information and reserve your camp spot contact Rodger Wallace at rr.wallace@comcast.net or (360) 274-8404.

If you have questions about this or other volunteer opportunities please do not hesitate to contact me at rmefwa@gmail.com or Daren Hauswald with WDFW at daren.hauswald@dfw.wa.gov or (360) 906-6756.

Thank you,
Stephanie
