Second Week Tom
« on: April 26, 2015, 09:22:51 AM »
First time turkey hunting on four years, but I got a couple days off and made a quick hunt. Birds were scattered and seemed to be pretty content with their hens, but I managed to get a bird and had a great trip.

The birds were gobbling quite a bit, but there was some weather moving in while I was there and the birds I was hunting were pretty flocked up with hens and did not have much interest in my sets or decoys. This was the only Tom I got in range, but I heard a lot of birds. This Tom was with 9 hens and it took my entire bag of tricks to get him in.

That's a great picture. How do you get the fan to stay open that we'll without holding it?

Witchcraft. No, actually I took a couple pictures holding it open like normal, but for some reason when I let go it pretty much stayed like that so I snapped a couple pictures. Maybe because it was wet? :dunno:

That is pretty darn cool

I have a few 8" very lightweight bungee cords.  I've wondered if I could grab on tail feather wrap it around the legs and to the opposite feather and get a picture like that.  Seeing how nice that picture looks I might have to try that next time.  Congratulations on the bird.
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

Just cut a small stick with a Y on one end open up the fan and put the other end against the bottom tail feather, works great with a little pratice!
