What is legal to hunt at night?
« on: January 04, 2009, 02:43:24 PM »
I am curious as to what is legal to hunt at night, with or without a light?  The Washington big game laws say no lights for any big game, and I think cougar is considered big game, but what about coyotes and bobcats?

Thanks!

i beleive hunting coyote/bobcats at night is legal as long as its not during big game season, or in the units...

It's legal to hunt coyote's, bobcat's, and raccoon's at night during the bobcat/raccoon season as long as the unit isn't open to modern firearm for deer and elk.  The reg is in small print at the bottom of page 63 of the regs.

.

Yes you are correct. One thing I never did figure out, and I should call the DFW and ask. Since it says it is legal to hunt coyotes at night during bobcat/raccoon season, what about the rest of the year, since hunting coyotes is open all year round?

Yes as long as there is not a big game season open in that area.  We always call and tell them who what where and have never had a problem.

Now that probably isn't a bad idea regardless of whether it's day or night if there is no other season going on. . .probably save yourself quite a bit of time and maybe some hassle having to explain what you're doing out there with a rifle when no season is open. . .except coyote. . .
