Kapowsin elk
« on: May 01, 2015, 07:05:53 PM »
This is the 1st year I've purchased the Hancock pass. Can I hunt for elk in there without a special permit? I'm an archery hunter. Kapowsin specifically. Meat hunter only.

No you cannot, but you are entered into a drawing for one of the best elk draws in the state.  You have a 6 in 1,200 chance, good luck.

Yes, they do sell camping permits to annual permit holders.

There used to be about 6-7 spots only, on the entire 160,000 + acres. Still the same ?

I don't think there is even that many. Plus you have to pay an extra couple hundred bucks in addition to the $375 for the permit just to camp.

Sadly that's still better odds than the state drawings.

So you have to pay 575 ish to hunt and camp? 30 years ago I think it was ten bucks to hunt that jungle! Back then it was Champion and you got your tag at the store. Wow have things got sideways!

I guess they lowered the price for the camping permit. It's now a hundred bucks. So $475 to hunt and camp there. And you most likely can't hunt elk.... I still love it there. :chuckle:

Recreational access is closed during elk season , only the people that drew the elk tag have access during the season .

I agree with you.  I'm not buying the pass this year, the deer hunting just isn't what it has been for me and that 375.00 will buy my late deer OTC tag in Idaho.  The ONLY reason I would consider buying it in the future is for that elk draw.  Charging extra for the camping pass is a joke.

:yeah: The deer hunting has went downhill over the last several years. With the game reg changes this year, every button buck will get popped too. It will be like Vail with way worse deer numbers. I gave up two years ago on hunting in there because there are to make predators and the deer numbers are way down.

Looks like a little better odds this year. Should only be 1000 names in the hat, about 200 permits still available

Hopefully some guys that really know the place get it. So many of these tags get burnt on bulls during the rifle season that aren't a true representation of what that hunt should be

My phone must be broken, it didn't ring.

Looks like I am doing east side muzzy for spikes while hunting deer. Will be a strange year without my dad, might have to solo hunt this year.
There is no greater respect to have for wildlife than to harvest an animal fairly and use it's flesh to feed your family.  ~me
