If you draw is it Once in a lifetime? And your done for goat?
If you harvest, you are done.  It will count as your oil goat.

This is so ridiculously stupid in my opinion.  If WDFW is going to encourage hunters to shoot nannies and create a new point category altogether - the harvested goat should not count as your OIL goat.  That'd be like having people who successfully draw and harvest a ewe sheep use up their OIL sheep.

That's spot on.

I know that country pretty well and I still haven't decided if I will put in or not. If it didn't take my OIL points I would for sure, but I've seen tons of goats up there, but never one worth using my points on.

It only uses your goat points if you harvest a goat.  I figure I'll pass on anything less than a Booner with my bow.  That way I don't waste my goat points unless it's worth while.

Eyetooth I just want to point out that you actually probably have better odds putting in for the new category than you did in the past with 8 points. With everybody starting at 0 you all have the same shot, with 8 points you were so far behind in points your odds were slim and none before. You should probably be celebrating that they broke these hunts off into a separate category. Put in for both categories

So, is someone who has already drawn an OIL goat tag eligible to apply for this new goat category?

If they didn't kill a goat they could.

Thanks andrew!
You're right, and I'm aware of that. Thanks for pointing it out in case I wasn't.
I also don't like being nickle and dimed. I realize to hunt in Washington we need to be willing to Play The Game. I've just reached my limit of flexibility for the goat hunts because of this new change. I'm slowly finishing up because of these kinds of things.
Thank you for your encouragement too. I wish everyone well!

Your exactly right but I doubt I could walk away from a goat with a tag in my pocket, so I'll leave temptation out of the equation.    :chuckle:

I've been wondering about that myself.  I really just want to hunt goats though!

The first season is set for the dates of the high buck hunt.  So, you could go primarily for deer and if you see a goat you like--shoot it, if not then it isn't really a waste because you can be focusing on deer.

There are some ginormous blacktails in the area I was scouting/hunting last year.  Saw 2 I would shoot I a heartbeat if I hadn't been hunting goats.

Back in the day, I used to climb the Brothers and set out my bivy and spend the night.  One night a giant billy followed us to the summit and bedded down just below our sleeping bags.
Its a steep and deep climb, but the basin just below the summit used to be full of goats.  Classic goat country.

I drew my last tag in 99 and bagged a nice billy in the Naches unit or I would put in for this hunt.
