Third times a charm
« on: May 12, 2015, 12:00:51 AM »
Soooo the 2015 season is turning out to be pretty exciting but a test of my will as a person, i have learned a lot about myself, and a little about hunting as well. I'm a new hunter, this is my third season making an attempt at bagging a Tom. I basically had my first turkey come in to my girlfriend and I's calls. I think they call it buck fever but I got excited. Needless to say I thought I saw a beard on the hen and was wrong, I had to call a game warden to come take me away. The officer was awesome all politics aside. Treated my girlfriend and I extremely well and gave me a written warning. He took the hen, I had a strange victory, just a valuable lesson. I learned I'm gonna need to watch my patience and excitement like a hawk. I might try a third trip, my second trip after the hen, we had a thunder storm Saturday night, extremely close  helicopter activity all day Sunday, and duel monster road side clean up machinery running the best areas on Monday, and that second trip was on the second week of the season. So I figure I'll make a third trip out, it's a nice drive anywhoo. Check out my strange trophy/reminder of patience and 2015.

Well atleast you called the Warden and told him you made a mistake. He used proper discretion and just gave you a warning and took the hen. Congrads on your first bird though! The only reason they don't. Let you shoot hens in the spring is because their nesting eggs, they let you shoot them in the fall most places are ANY TURKEY in the fall. Atleast you know now my friend.
