Deer special Permits question
« on: May 12, 2015, 10:22:19 AM »
So me and my dad have drove all over asking about "youth hunts" and special permits we even asked a game warden but no one seemed to know much about it. So here are some questions: are there are any special youth hunting grounds (someone at work said something about it)? Is it better to apply for a youth special permit or a quality deer hunt special permit? And lastly how is it better to have a special permit then just a normal deer license?

This is my first time I will apply for a permit and its just days away from the deadline. thanks!

There are youth special permits, most of which are antlerless only.

I don't know of any places that are restricted to youth hunting only but there may be. Someone else may be able to answer that better for you.

As far as special permit versus regular deer license...quality permits are usually timed in such a way that they correspond with the rut, or migration, or some other aspect that makes the hunting better. If I were you and I was getting into the permits game, I'd be applying for both quality and youth points to start building points.

Something else you might look into is a 2nd deer permit. Usually easier to draw, antlerless, in an area where WDFW is trying to manage population issues... ie there are a lot of deer. Note on this that the 2nd tag will cost you about $40.00 if you draw it.

youth has its own category usually does  youth has own season  quality is buck hunts  usually  closer  to rut later then general  season. quality is harder to get. if you want to get a deer and dont care about horns i would put in for doe
