Welcome back Seth! I'd replace the baby powder with gold bond powder. Same concept but I really like gold bond. Also you can get purification tablets (they taste bad) until you get a filter.
Far easier to carry a filter instead of carrying heavy fuel to boil water. I have a sawyer filter that weighs next to nothing and you can find it for around 30$. Is that all your food? I'd go nuts eating nothing but mountain house. Good for dinner though. You carry a whole flashlight or a headlamp?
I would make sure I have new good 4# line on your reel. Those setups usually come with really heavy crummy line that wont cast. Get some 4# Ande and you will cast 3 times further.Maybe ditch the cotton tees / underwear for synthetic or wool - Nike Dryfit, firstlite wool, or exofficio ?
Just got back from a military detachment, and leave again in a few weeks. However on the return I plan on doing a weekend hike in the cascades. TBAR and The Skybuster really helped me out last year with hiking and I learned more from them than any youtube video or book. I have always been a hands on guy This is my current setup pic by pic. Looking for any extra inputs. Current weight is 28 lbs in the backpack. Not pictured in the photos are;Head lampHoodie (will also be my pillow)Fire starter bricksGlock 29Bottle of whiskey (sorry already drank the display model )
Do you know how to cook the fish you catch? (without the pan) or are you packing something to cook them with the pan?
Personal preference here. I would ditch the powders and use petroleum jelly for the chafing. You can get a small container that will last several trips. It also doubles for Firestarter material.
On a note of the water filtration system. Walmart has the "mini sawyer" for 19.99. If you went with aquamarine tablets. I carry single packages of Propel or Crystal light to break up the taste. I also gave up the saw a few years back for a Mini Gerber Axe, to me it's has a lot more usage then the saw. And where is the "Knife?"
That doesn't seem like enough toilet paper. Especially with that much Mountain House in the pack! Folded up blue shop paper towels can double as TP (even wet) and kitchen cleanup. Just make sure not to use the same one for both doodies
Seth, are you scouting or just going for a weekend mess around?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If you chafe alot, this stuff works 10x better than any powders. And you can get a backpacking size stick at REI, Sports Authority etc. http://www.amazon.com/Bodyglide-Original-Anti-Chafe-Balm-Packaging/dp/B005L8YVROQuote from: Magnum_Willys on May 16, 2015, 07:58:09 AMI would make sure I have new good 4# line on your reel. Tried UA and those didn't. Want to try the Exofficio line.
