Shot placement Archery

Help me out here, I’ve never taken an elk with a bow before so I’ve been researching this an most on-line advice has the shots farther back than I’d do. 

This guy isn’t a true spike but if I could I’d stick him where I put the X.  Too far forward?  Too low?

Go 2''-3'' higher and dead center between the 2 front legs and you'd be perfect!

Mid body mid body get two lungs , don't get too hung up holding to tight to shoulder. Back two or three  inches gives you more room for error . Just be careful of the dead spot above the lungs and bellow the spine

The x you made is an excellent shot but aiming mid body 2 inches behind the shoulder gives you more forgiveness if you misjudge range slightly or the elk jumps your string( broadside)  I would say 75% of the time aiming for the opposite leg in a quarter away shot is gonna put you where you want to be

I would take that shot all day, any day.  I would move back and up an inch or two.

2"-3" left of the X & I'd be more comfortable with the shot out to 35 yards. Any further & I'd raise the impact a couple more inches but still to the left!
