OK, one more, the bedded cow:  Shoot or no shot?

Bedded stuff I think is more difficult than people think.  If you're going to do it you need to be in the lower half of the animal.  If you really want good hunting practice you should shoot some 3-d shoots.

Shorter range, plenty doable.  I say shoot if after a cow.

Better have an advanced degree in geometry as you consider the "arch" in archery to avoid taking out the lead elks neck...

I know this is a trail cam pic, but, if the situation is as shown during an actual hunting scenario...... you're not drawing anyway with that first cow's attention on where I'm guessing the shooter is   

Edit:  "If" there is no cow with her nose in your face (just the bedded cow looking away), this shot will bring the cow home for dinner

Yep that is a great spot.  Inch or two left still gets it done.

Or wait it out & just as her hind legs raise up exposing a better shot of course the chance of another elk busting you or the wind swirling can happen too I perfer to wait this one out, my choice

I'd probably wait the sleepy elk out.. I'm always nervous of a poor shot and wounding an animal.. I'm a bit too conservative I think sometimes, but I'll wait or just not shoot if there's any question in my mind about the angles. I've been very close to some huge Bulls and didn't shoot for one reason or another.

I'd take the frontal shot on the standing elk any day over the bedded one.
