OR CWL Appointment Next Week - 2A not enough to get it.
« on: February 18, 2014, 05:51:11 AM »
I sent in the application after a few back and forth informational emails. It's not too difficult and lots of things qualify you for the handgun portion - active duty, NRA handgun course, OR state approved course, NRA Range Safety Cert. (which I have), all meet the training requirements. They give out of state only to the adjacent WA county. For example, Multnomah Co. only issues out of state permits to Clark Co. residents. You have to have a good reason to need protection and 2A isn't good enough - travel through the state quite a bit with valuables, fear for family's safety/personal safety, late night trips, etc.

Any alcohol-related arrests, domestic abuse, restraining orders, felonies, less than honorable discharge, theft, or any violence on your record disqualifies you.

I'd prefer not having to get one at all and still be legal, but it is what it is. The cost is $65 for a 4-year permit and then $50 for renewal.

That's what I keep saying law itself makes the 2nd mute for to be a lawabiding citizen you can't practise a God given right/or natural right if you preffer- to self protection not legally that is!
I mean if you have a handgun in the car/truck whatever and it has to be unloaded and not concealed kind of negates anyone from being able to practise their 2nd amendment rights unless you jump through their hoops! :bdid:
"When my bow falls, so shall the world. When me heart ceases to pump blood to my body, it will all come crashing down. As a hunter, we are bound by duty, nay, bound by our very soul to this world. When a hunter dies we feel it, we sense it, and the world trembles with sorrow. When I die, so shall the world, from the shock of loosing such a great part of ones soul." Ezekiel, Okeanos Hunter

I received my permit today, 9 days after going in - faster than WA. Now I don't have to unload before i hit the bridge every time. That was very annoying. Hooray!

I was told they have to fingerprint you, did you go there then send in your paper work?

No, as I recall, I filled out the application online, had a phone interview, and then went in and had that all done the day they took my picture. I only went in once.

Thanks, we  (my wife and I) are going to take a class held at Cabelas and I want to make it minimal for her. We both have our CCW for WA.

Soon the supreme court is likely to make the "good reason" excuse illegal.  DC's permiting system was just invalidated at the circuit level for that basis, that people do not need to have a good reason to avail themselves of the right to bear arms. And that the states have shown no specific state interest in the standard.

 :yeah:

Get out of Little Beirut (AKA Portland) and you'll be fine.  I used a free online course from somewhere back east if I remember right.
