Whiteys on the Fence?

I planned on going East for a Wht Tail.  I planned on a runner up hunt if unsuccessful and pressed for travel time too.  So I've investigated a variety of areas E/W of the main passes. If I don't have to I'd rather not go through Stevens for a Wht Tail.  I've got a couple spots in mind that would thread out through SnoQ but my ride is suffering this season.  Do Wht Tail enjoy the W/SW side as well as the East?  Not so much I don't think but if anyone has a tip it may overlap some areas I like west of the passes.  Seems like the far east is for WhtT.  Elk Rule the middle.  Cuzzins to the West.  So...I MAy have to settle for a Cuzzin this season.  Blk Tail doesn't make my freezer very happy but there are plenty of savory ways to pretend I took a Whitey.  There just seems like there would be an overlap to the south and to the North.  MAybe not.

you certainly don't have to go through stevens for a whitetail, assuming you're talking about buckrun?

?...if you're up for a challenge, try the blacktails.
do you not have transport to get to e-wa for a whitetail? is that the problem?

i think i decided he's wondering if there's any whitetails around the crest in southwest or northwestern washington because he is looking for good table fare not too far a drive...maybe he doesn't have a way to get to NE or SE washington to find a whitetail...blacktails aren't bad eating, are they?

bottom line is there are no whitetails to hunt in western washington. you gotta drive a ways. probably 4-6 hours driving would get you into lots of whitetails.

Blacktails and whitetails taste the same to me. They're all good. If you want lots of meat just shoot a big one.

I just re-read zen's post. I'm guessing by "Stevens" he means Stevens Pass? At first I thought Stevens County but that doesn't make sense.

My sprockets are loose yall.  Sorry for the confusion.  Jax got the idea but I'll clarfiy anyhow. 

For starters; My van is a little tired and I'm not sure when I'll afford a proper tune up.  It'll handle SnoQ pass but Stevens has that long eastbound approach.  My van doesn't like that one.  So anyhow, I just figured there may be a grey area in the middle (the "crest" I guess) where WhtTail overlap some of their cousins like the BlckTail.  The real question sounded like it got a no.  That was whether or not I'll find any WhtT's near or west of the main passes.  I kinda thought maybe up North or way south.  FAt chance but what the heck.   A nice Blk Tail is fine by me.  It'll be my first WA deer!...ihope.  THNX for the input.

you do have mule deer up near the passes from the eastside, but no whiteys.

Yeah, if you're going over Snoqualmie, probably the closest whitetails will be around Twisp. To get there you'll have to go over Blewett Pass too. Yep, better stick to the blacktails.

You could go down to Klickitat county and try hunting some bench bucks (mule deer/blacktail). Plus the drive would be easy on your vehicle.

Truely it's a blessing to be hunting in such a challenging state so I recind my freezer joke.  I don't mean to sound ungrateful.  I'll be happy to take a healthy deer no matter what.  Should it present itself, I'll give him a ride back to the Sound pronto.

There ya' go! The only problem with blacktail is: after you shoot one, you will want to shoot more!

I think its possible to just cross the the pass, either Stevens or Snoq. and see whitey's .  We were out between Highway 2 and I-90,Noth East of the town of Liberty on the border of some small parcels of the Wenatchee N.F. We say at least 10-12 shooter bucks.  Granted it was about 4 weeks ago, but I think the Whitey's push to the West more than people think. 
  If you want to see alot of deer than the Mazama-Twisp areas of Highway 20, are a good place to start.
