Browning X Bolt in 300 WSM..... Who has one?
« on: January 06, 2009, 11:00:14 PM »
So, here it is Christmas morning, I come downstairs with the family to gather around the tree and low and behold, there is a brand new Browning X Bolt in 300WSM, with my name on it.

About brought a tear to my eye seeing how my old lady don't know a damn thing about guns.

I have an arsenal of bigger guns, so this is no shock to me, but this is my first Browning ever.

So if you have one...lets hear about it. How does it shoot? Group? Recoil? (not sure I like the pad that comes on it). What do you think about the poly magazine? What loads are you shooting? (factory and re-loads). Any kills with it this year?

I tried to order one in 25-06 when they first came out but it would've taken 6 months to get.  So I went with the A-Bolt and if the X is an improved A, then it should be an awesome gun.  I love my A-Bolt.

I have the A-bolt stainless stalker in 325wsm and my buddy has the 300wsm in the same gun.  They do give you a bit of a jolt as they are pretty light, especially when I am shooting the 220gr pills outta mine.  I immediately replaced the stock recoil pad with a sims pad, and it works great.  Both Guns shoots very well and are a joy to carry.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.

Let us know how you like it.  Not many people have an X-bolt yet.

I want to get one when/if this economy starts going again and I start working at least 40hrs a week again.

I've only read about them and seen pictures in magazines and internet so far.  But what I've seen, I really like them.  I like the 3-position tang safety.  It is just like the safety on my Steyr.  The triggers are supposed to be awesome.  I want one in 7mm-08 or 308 since I already have two 300 Win mags.
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

Dude, it was a joke. Sorry if I offended you  :) Didnt mean for it to sound too harsh. It is a great present , should shoot good. I like the browning line . Wife was looking to buy a new rifle and looked at the x-bolt and the a-bolt. She bought a Remington model 7 300 WSM instead.

What do you think about the poly magazine?

That's the only thing I didn't like about the x bolts when I was looking at them. I'm just not a huge fan of the detachable magazines. Most of the ones I have seen feel cheap, and I would probably lose it anyway.

I'm sure it is a great rifle though, and I wouldn't mind finding one under my x-mas tree.  :)

No experience w/ an X bolt but I really like A bolts.... assumption is that they'd be pretty damn good.

my friend had one with him at the range this summer. it was a 270 i think. the gun shot really nice and the trigger pull felt light at about 3lbs and crisp. i dont personaly like the looks but the gun shouldered perfect for me.

A member of the gun club I belong to has one in 300 wsm.  He is in load development with it, but likes it.  Nice looking rifle.  Seems to be shooting very nicely, too!
