Wenaha west archery!!!!!
« on: June 13, 2015, 07:46:46 PM »
Well without going into too much detail, I haven't hunted much or put in for tags for the last 3 or 4 years but I decided this would be the year for me to get back into the swing of things and start hunting again. Well I drew 1 of the 3 Wenaha West archery tags!!! I am super pumped and was hoping some of you guys that I know have killed big bulls in this unit in the past could post up some pics of them here for some added motivation for me to get my butt in shape!!!  :IBCOOL:

Hope you're in shape. Have you ever been into the Wenaha? If you can physically handle it, it's the hunt of a lifetime.

Yes I have been over there but I have not hunted it, my buddy drew a Dayton tag a few years back so I have spent a little time in the area but I'm not a stranger to that type of hunt, about 5 years ago I spent a month in a Nevada wildernesss area calling for a buddy of mine who drew the tag and that country was every bit as big as the Wenaha is. I am very excited for this hunt!!!!!

i think a drop camp is at the least a no brainier!  Give yourself the best odds at killing a quality bull!

I think the west is different then the east. The east is more remote so a drop camp makes sense. The west is pretty easy to day hunt. Also I believe outfitting is restricted to just the eastern edge of the unit if I remember correctly.

you are correct, 100%.  But I bet getting deep in that east side of the west wenaha would be epic.  I have seen big Bulls in the easier walking areas by the watershed boundary, so it's not like you are in a bad area whatever you decide.  I just love the idea of being dropped off in the backcountry away from people and having them pack out my meat.

So guys I've been trying to order maps all day and I am having a tough time finding the right ones. Maybe I am just being picky but I really don't wanna order a dozen maps to hopefully end up with one or two that I might use. Which maps have you guys that have hunted the area found most useful and where did you get them? Any help would be appreciated, and thank you again!

I have not hunted it, but mytopo.com allows you to design the map you want, prints it on water resistant paper, folded, for about $14.
