Taneum Modern Firearm Antlerless tags
« on: June 22, 2015, 04:12:04 PM »
Me, my daughter (15 year old) and son-in-law got drawing for taneum Modern antlerless tags.  I have some knowledge of the area after turkey hunting there but could use some more information if anyone has any experience.  I plan to do soem late summer scouting.  Where should I focus on?  Any help is appreciated.  Freezer is about empty.  LOL  :dunno: :IBCOOL:

I will be hunting that unit most of deer and all elk season so I will keep an eye out and let you know.

Thanks HHPro.  I will be going to the area to scout and look for a good place to set up my wall tent between now and the end of summer.  Any ideas were to start my search for a good camp location?  I have been in the area from the I-90 side up the Woods and Steel road and on the Taneum Creek side as well.

Our group of 5 got cow tags there too but I don't want one. I got a bull tag to fill  :chuckle: I think there are good numbers of elk & hunters in the unit so that means they get pushed around. PM sent.
I have Man Chit to do

Congrats to you, your daughter and son in law.  My son and I drew that tag also.  Since you are not real familiar with that unit, summer scouting would be beneficial.  You can't "easily" get from the west part of that unit to the eastern part without using I-90.  As is true elsewhere, elk you find in the summer "probably" won't be there come the general modern firearms season.  The exception is elk down low (mostly private land) that spend most of the year in the same general vicinity and move to the safety of the private land at the first sign of trouble.

ShadowHunter I plan to scout the area a few times this summer.  I have been on the I-90 side a little as well as the west side.  Just not enough to have a good feel for it yet.  Good luck on filling your tags.

I drew the rifle bull tag so I will be out before you, I can contact you around then and give you a solid report on where I'm seeing elk.

Thank you I had this tag 11 years ago and took a smaller 5x5 so this time around I'm looking to go bigger.

My dad drew the MF antlerless tag aswell last time he hunted it was back in '76 so we will be making a few trips in there for scouting and to find a place to camp.
