Rod length and action for Sockeye Trolling w/out downriggers?

I'm working on getting my Sockeye setup up to speed for this summer in Lake Wenatchee.

I have a little 14' aluminum fishing boat and two manual downriggers running with 8'6" MH rods.

I can fish one more person comfortably in that boat, and would like to be able to run a 3rd rod, which won't be on a rigger.

If I'm just trolling lead weights and a dodger and terminal tackle without the downrigger - can anyone recommend which length and action you'd go with for that?

Why not just use a clip on one of your downrigger lines?

Long lining up there with all the boat traffic during the sockeye run is a pain in the butt. I'd go with Phools option

Hadn't thought of this, dunno why that didn't occur to me.  I've never run two lines off a single downrigger.

Not sure where I'd mount the rod holder.

One thing I've taken from this years koke fishing is that even with the trout release....even with putting the line juuuust barely in the clip....for me and our smaller Lake Stevens kokes....they just don't pop it out that well. I think surface and long lines (leaded or weighted) land more fish. Next year I'm getting some leaded line setups.

I run two lines of one downrigger up in the Brewster pool for Sockeye, I use the 7'6" Lamiglass Koke rods and they work awesome, really forgiving for the soft bite

The suggestions listed above are good, but I personally run the third rod out the back with enough banana weight or dropper ball to get the depth you want. Seems like that rod has just as much if not more action. I'd use the longest rod you have buy any rod will do. I prefer extra fast action rods for the socks.

Yeah, I don't see a problem with running a line with lead at Lk. Wenatchee either.  Stacking on the rigger is a pain - particularly in a 14' boat with a tiller motor and manual downriggers, just not enough hands to do it all at the same time.  When you're going 1 mph or less, six or eight ounces will get you down fine without being in the way of others - at least early in the day when the fish are in the top 50'.  A diver works fine too.

Honestly you really only need a 8'6 8lb-20lb medium action yellow Eagle claw salmon rod for trolling with lead or off the downrigger. When you are sockeye fishing you are not running long leaders from the dodger so a shorter softer rod is ok. I saw some online the other day for $30 a piece.  You will like the fiberglass rods when those fish get next to the boat and start going bannanas like they often do.
