Need Advice on Lk. Quinault Trolling.
« on: June 26, 2015, 09:08:57 PM »
I'm taking the kids out there in the next week or so and would love some advice on what gear to use.
I was out there a couple of weeks ago and have a good idea of where I will be trolling, but I haven't ever tried that lake before.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Pop gear with a wedding ring and some worm on the end usually works.

Perfect. I have lots of those in the tackle box.
I'll give that a try.

The locals use double haldebrant spinners I think with a worm. Stop by the closest gas station I'm sure they know the drill

Growing up spending summers at our cabin on the lake, we caught a lot of trout casting from shore with good old daredevils. A friend once caught a sockeye in the lake trolling a super duper for trout.

Hildebrandt and a 3 ft leader to worm usually works pretty well but about this time of year the bite really changes to using small spoons like Canadian wonder. The trout eat the crap out of the schools of salmon smolts so if you can find the spot where they are jumping, troll that area fast with a small silver spoon and you will knock em dead. There was times last year when my dad and I limited out on trout ( which is 15 fish a piece!) in about two hours in spots that were full of the smolts! With this hot weather, you probably won't catch much trolling except the first and last two hours of the day. The golden hour is when bite goes crazy on days like this. Good luck!

There are some very strict regs concerning trolling that lake. Pop gear was a not allowed and I believe a two ounce max, no bait. The incoming mouth would produce giant dollies for us. Canadian wonders in 50/50. Sockeye get eaten on the boat. Do check the tribal regs.
