Elk Killed in Barn Collapse!
« on: January 08, 2009, 12:35:33 PM »
METALINE FALLS, Wash. (AP) - Six wild elk that took refuge from winter weather in an old hay storage barn were killed when the roof collapsed.

The state Fish and Wildlife Department said 20 elk had sought refuge in the barn on Tuesday. The area has been pounded by more than 6 feet of snow this winter, and dozens of roofs have collapsed.

Five of the elk died instantly and one suffered a broken back and had to be euthanized.

Officers said it was rare for elk to be so desperate that they would enter a barn.

That is a little weird, We had some big snow's years back and Dad's barn was creaking up a storm, and the Horses wouldn't go anywhere near it, not even to eat, he had to feed them out a way's. I would of though Elk to have similar sences???

For those that didn't know - The locals salvaged the meat from all of these dead elk and gave it all to charity.  So at least the meat didn't go to waste.  There was an article on the local news stations.
