Peppers... how does it work?
« on: June 29, 2015, 05:42:02 PM »
Was at the UKC Hunt Test a few weeks ago and I'd like to start looking at new places to train at. As far as I can tell from the all knowing Internet you pay 5 bucks and get to use the grounds?

Also does anyone still do the butch higgins training days? I wrote his website down a year ago after reading a post but it seems like his site is down at the moment.

Edit: by Butch Higgins I meant the Andy Fontenot training days... whoops.

I thought Peppers was $10 and honor pay. Steve-It's Bob Peppers training grounds out in Snoqualmie.

This is the group that just held the HRC test. You'll find a map at the bottom of the page for the property http://www.whistlingwingshrc.com/hunt-tests.html

The best value is to make nice with a farmer and use their property when you can...

Peppers is $15 a dog. "no exceptions"(written on the box) Before the gate, fill out the liability release/payment card, go through the gate and put the card and your money in the black steel box inside the gate. Also note, you're on camera :)

Cherry Valley is un-usable due to lack of maintenance by the WDFW. We have made some progress with upper management and the policies will be changing soon and we hope to re-invigorate the volunteer effort. Stillwater and Cresent Lake are also public ground. The WDFW has attempted to designate a small area to dog training at Cherry Valley only. Working on fixing that failed attempt to limit people's ability to recreate on public land.

Bert Carlson's Retriever Grounds is also a "pay to play". It's on Neal Rd in Fall City. $10 for the first dog, $5 for the second. There is a box at the Carlson's K-9 Country Club Kennel Office. Just put your money in the box. Carlson's retriever grounds are maintained(weed eating around ponds and mowing) by a real A-hole so, be real nice when you're out there.  :chuckle:

I also use Meadowbrook Farms field in North Bend occasionally. It's a public park. No water but it's a good place for drill work.

Or is the trainer Jeff Hunter?  I thought he was there at Pepper's on Saturdays and Mondays.  Anyway, we had him do some training with our dog, and liked him a lot...

And Whistling Wings is a great HRC.

What is the terrain like at Smith farms I've never been?
