Want to brag about your NAFA checks?
« on: July 04, 2015, 08:01:48 AM »
Looks like an average of $3.99 on rats, Would have been better I'm sure but a mouse got into them and chewed a few. Those brought a dollar and drug the average down.

Beaver, I'm not sure how to average as I had so many bought back. Except for a fluke that brought $34 it looks like top end is near $15 and down to $9 for section 3. None of the smaller stuff sold.

mink at $4 and $5

1 Cat sold for $56

No sale for Opossums or raccoons

I didn't ship a lot of fur. Sent a bunch to Moyles so I did high grade it before I shipped.
Stull I had some good stuff I shipped so it looks like all the bad news is indeed true.

Like I was expecting, all my coon were bought back. No biggy though considering most were blue. My three cats I sent in sold though. Two were 1 select and I got 45 a piece for them. My other was damaged and I got 35 for it. Oh well, I got enough money coming back to buy my hunting licenses at least.

If you had some cats bought back you might want to check your account again I had 9 that sold private treaty sometime over the weekend.

Sold 1 damaged Civet for 12 bucks so I'm going skunk trapping next winter. :)

I haven't been following the market, why is it so low right now?

For the past number of years Russia has been the primary consumer of North American wild fur. They bought fur with petro dollars. Price of oil collapsed, Ukraine sanctions and the Russian economy is in the toilet. The Ruble dropped around 40% against the dollar. They can't afford our fur and they didn't show for the auctions. China and Greece buy a lot of fur but the end user is probably in Russia.
Add to that when the price of fur was climbing fur ranchers doubled their production so they are dumping ranched mink at low prices. World wide production of ranch mink was near 80 million last year.
Only bright spot is coyotes which are going for trim on winter coats. These are mainly being sold in North America. Trouble is we can't trap coyotes in WA with the traps we are allowed to use.

I haven't been able to view what I received for my civets. Something wrong with the page.
Probably is the best thing to trap though.

We sold everything but 2 beavers.
Bobcat sold for $45 average.
Beaver $12
Otter $32
Mink $10
And the real head scratcher.... muskrat about $3. I thought the boy did a fair job putting up the rat fur but apparently not. We'll both be working hard to improve on things.

It was still a pretty nice check but nothing compared to the last few years.

I'm sure your boy did a great job putting up the rat fur, rats were just basically worthless this year.

I just got my check from nafa today. The first time I've done this, so I have a few questions.
What column on the fur report would indicate how well I did skinning?  Grade, or the section/quality column?

Beaver, I sold 7 of 11 at $12.07 average
1 bobcat- $62
Rats- 24 at $3.64
otter,  I sold 4 of 5 at $45.50 average.  4 of the 5 were sindged.
1 mink- $9

The grade column is what you would look at. Bear in mind though there are things that affect the grade outside the control of the fur handler. Bites and rubs were there before you started. The singed otter well that can be either but I believe most singed otter were singed when caught. Seems like a high percentage though. Could be time of year or maybe a little too aggressive on the beam. Could also be bad luck.
From what you quote as prices I'd say you did alright if you can even say that this year.
I finally got a price on what my civets brought $12 and $13. Not too happy with that.

I trapped all but 1 in the last 6 weeks of the season. The highest priced one I got was $55.  It had strait hair quality. Extra dark- dark. 3XL-XXL.
Lowest was $39. 3XL-XL. SDG. Dark brown. Singed.
 $12-13 a civet isn't considered good?

$50 average on DK/DB Alaska marten.
$5 for nice male mink
Otter bought back
Glad I had most of my stuff tanned this year.
Here's my averages for the past few years on Alaska marten:
2012 $100
2013 $200
2014 $95
2015 $50
But at least the marten all sell on the first go-around.

It is down for NAFA but I have been selling them privately for quite a few years and getting considerably more. No takers this last year though so I shipped some to NAFA plus I had some that were mouse chewed and I wouldn't sell them privately.
