Still need some help
« on: July 09, 2015, 10:22:56 AM »
I was wondering if anyone would mind helping me. So for the last year I've been doing some scouting and have not seen any signs of a signal animal out there. Am I scouting wrong. I was wondering if anyone could help me maybe I'm just nto in a good area. I've been scouting a few places around skagit valley and cannot find anything. Would anyone mind pointing in an area with a decent deer population. I can drive out no more than 2 hours so anything within hours of burlington in skagit would be preferred. Thank you. I am scouting for deer if that helps any.

Sorry I know nothing about that area around there but from looking at the map you are pretty limited within a two hour drive but I am no blacktail hunter.  My only suggestion is to go as far west on 20 as you can and head up hill on the first forest road you find and get in the openings at daylight.

Well you could try Baker Lake area or up around Finney Creek.  Things are so dry that I would not scout too high.  I believe most animals will be down where the water is.  Find a place to ditch the vehicle and head off scouting on foot early in the morning or later in the evening.
We came to hunt!

I would steer you in the direction of Baker Lake.  It is very close to you, just east on SR 20 then head north on Baker Lake Road.  Stay at lower elevations and walk abandoned or gated logging roads.  Walk slowly and look for sign, the easiest place to find tracks and trails is on the road embankments.  Good Luck

South Skagit Highway in the Day Creek area.  Puts out some nice bucks.  Lots of timber company gates to park at and walk in.
