Baker reports?
« on: July 14, 2015, 09:59:51 AM »
Anyone fish it yet?  Numbers look good, but after last year I promised myself to not show up until it was turned on.  Looks like double the amount in the lake compared to when I fished it last year at the end of July.

If you wait until that happens you may miss it.  Once you hear about it turning on, it could be to late.   :chuckle:  The guys that know the fishery are limiting.  The guys trying to learn it are hit and miss on catch ratio.  We caught 3 on both trips with another 6 long line releases.  Some had boat limits.  You be the judge on whether you have the skills to be in the top 10%.  If you are, you will catch fish!

Why not just let the Indians pull fish straight from the trap? No nets in the river, no by catch,  and we would have a good count for quota??   Yea i know they really woundnt want any of that would they.  Sorry for the rant boys

They don't want the DFW know how many they actually catch.  It's probably a rough estimate at best.  They should close the river to nets period. It would help the survival rate of kings, steelhead and other fish.  This would help grow all the runs.

Any special tips?  I use downriggers, very slow troll, dodgers and a combo of red, pink and blue hooks.  Some with shrimp, some just sent, some with the smile blades.

Fishing was decent on Sunday, but sounded like Saturday was much better.  Two solid bites, one in the boat.  Possibly a third bite but just a bump and run.

Consistently saw fish caught, but I wouldn't say it was on fire Buoy 10 style - I'm not sure if Baker ever gets that good or not.

It is not about what we think or want ..its all about what the tribes want ...But we continue to give our money to help the cause ..Go figure  :dunno: Pretty sad that amount of fish went by without many being caught . I had one good day fishing the river and on that one day I caught 3 and lost 4 ..all in about 20 minutes ..Other than that is was pretty sheeety fishing ..not blaming no one but mother nature for that  :dunno: :chuckle: Letting them take them from the trap is not traditional standards from there point of view  :dunno: So our argument should be that casinos were not traditional to their ancestors  :dunno:  So someone explain all that crap to me ...I am sorry if some tribal members think I am racist but hey I am white and its my duty to beach about everything that has an affect on my freedom !! other than that , it is all good ! :brew:

Big fat ZERO in the box today kinda got a late start by getting in the lake at 730 or so ,3 real aggresssive strikers at about 8 oclock to 830  that should have got hooked but 77 year old fisher just wasn't on his game,he did however catch 3 nice kokanees that he'll be having for supper tommorrow.Only one rod was hot today and our bait kinda sucked.Had fun though, them old guys are pretty dang funny.

Went Saturday also, 1 on and I lost it,thought the mainline broke as it went limp all of the sudden, fact is the fish was rocketing to the top and the fish jumped out about 2 feet dodger and all, only strike we had,saw a few get caught but no one was really railing them.Talked with a guy at the dam launch and they had their 8 were fishing 65 feet and had a blue squid and a purple squid tipped with shrimp(coincidentally the sunday before when we got 6,lost 4 and had 4 other strikers, those same guys caught only 1 fish)We actually saw a guy catch one on just a naked coonstripe cured shrimp on a double hook setup(Shrimp on front hook). After all the trips I'm thinking that if you wave it in front of them your going to have one on.My buddys kids went sunday and they caught 1 and seen 5 or six caught.Good luck I've got one in the smoker as I type
