Sounds hard to do but now it's time to get another pup and start the giving and receiving all over again. It may help the healing process. Sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss, Brian. That sucks. We lost our yellow dog of 14 years a little over 3 years ago and we still get a little choked up  thinking about him. RIP Skagit.

Hard to lose a member of the family even if it is a 4 legged one. I had my girl Keesha for 14 years from the time she was born on my bed until the day we had to make that difficult decision and drive to the vet. Always refereed to her as my "first born" as she taught me how to be responsible for someone besides myself when I was in my 20's. Took me 8 long years to be willing to even consider getting another dog after that. We picked a rescue that we named Shawnee and she fits in well with our family. Now looking back, I still miss Keesha but I should not have waited so long to get another. One thing about a rescue dog, or at least mine, it is as if she knows to be grateful for having it so good now. Take some comfort in knowing 14 years is many more than some get and about as many as can be expected. Sorry for your loss.  :(

Have heard it said that a dog's only fault is they don't live long enough.

I'm sorry to hear Brian, it's really tough losing a good dog. I know that you can never fully replace the good ones, at least you've got some great memories and maybe you will find another dog that will be another good companion and family member.

It's amazing how they can touch our hearts so much. Doesn't matter how long and full of a life they had. It's as bad or even worse in some ways than loosing a human best friend. Hang in there and you'll find another one soon just as equal or she'll find you.
