Anyone going to bow hunt this year?........
« on: August 09, 2015, 11:07:59 PM »
No, no, no, not that highly technical piece of machinery known as the compound "bow" I'm talking stick and string, recurve/longbow action. Anybod chasing wapiti tradish this year? If so what's your setup? I feel like the only dude under 60 that has the traditional archery bug. Love to hear from some others! Also, if you've ever considered it, do it, the primitive feeling is awesome and compounds have become totally boring to me.

I have thought about it.  What is range? 40y?  Most shots are 50y and less anyways.  Dad has an old recurve 45lb, not sure of brand but nice and only used 1 year in early 80's.  Of course fire closures gonna make things tuff this year too.
MAGA!  Again..

40 is abit of a strech :bdid:, think more inside 30, 20 even better, not that a 40 yard shot can't be done, but getting close is the game.

I have done the trad thing the last few years, got my bull last year, but I ended up with a vertical crack in the old Alaskan I was shooting. Even if I picked up a new bow I don't realy have the prep time, haven't shot in a couple months. Used to be shooting every day. Haven't picked up my tags yet since I may have to blow the dust out of the rifle. I have an oak board bow all ruffed out I might have to give a shot.

 I'm  deer hunting longbow.
I think 1 pound per yard is  good. 40 lb min = 40 yard max.
I'm not sure.

Yeah 40 yards is my limit, and yes recurves require atleast every other day practice to be confident enough. I couldn't even hit my target with my first couple shots this spring  :chuckle: One day I'll have a black widow but for now my vista sage is just fine, 455 grain total arrow weight and stinger 2 blades with the little bleeders fly great.

Someday I want to get back into Traditional.  Nothing more fun to shoot!  For now I just don't have the time it takes to be sure of a humane shot.  Good for you that do.  I envy you.

Yeah I take my recurve out once or twice a year.  I love it.

Not sure if this counts as traditional, but I hunt with a Martin compound right hand bow, no peep sight, using my left eye, fingers release, and a single pin for sighting.
