Sun Lakes Coulee city camping/smoke report
« on: August 17, 2015, 12:01:22 PM »
Does anyone know how bad the smoke in this area is? The family has a camping trip planned for all of next week but if its going to be smokey we will have to cancel. I've been looking for resources online but haven't come up with much info on this area. Also tried calling the park but couldn't reach anyone. Thanks in advance!

If you're calling the state park, you could call the resort right next door and you'll probably get an answer. The state park isn't manned all the time it seems.

Its smokey on the entire east side of the state.

I suspect this will be the answer you'll get either way.

:yeah: It was smoky driving home for me all the way from just outside Tri-Cities all the way up to East Wenatchee and with the weather reports, I am assuming it will stay this way for a while.

neighbors across the street cut their trip short as it was too smokey for them at Steamboat.  I'd check the wind trend before I'd schedule a trip up there.  I think the last couple days of their trip it was blowing from Chelan towards Banks.

Thanks for the info everyone! We are going to have to call it off and find somewhere out of the smoke probably on this side of the mountains  :bash:

As of today, I am haven't seen and improvement.  It sounds like some breezy conditions and possibly thunderstorms may come by on Friday which should assist with some smoke.  Hopefully we do not get anymore lightning.

I just drove thru there last night.  It wasn't that bad in the Sun Lakes area, very hazy but plenty of people fishing and out on the water. Further north you go the worse it gets, but personally I wouldn't call off a trip to Sun Lakes.

Just talked to someone that was there for this past weekend and they said it was not an issue, they were at Blue Lake.

For some reason the smoke really bothers me anymore. We had some blow down here from the Matlock fire a couple weeks ago and I had to go inside while others I talked to hardly noticed it.  :dunno:

It's been pretty rough lately. Nose is a snot factory, eyes water, and throat gets rough when it's thick. I too, would not call off a good camping trip to Sun Lakes. Just head inside if it gets thick. Most of the time it passes on after a bit. Go make some good family memories!

Not the exact area, but got this picture from my dad on Lake Roosevelt yesterday evening. They are up the Lincoln/Seven bays area.

The wife spoke with the resort last night, they said it was pretty smokey. The wife also heard some state parks were doing full refunds because of closures but I can't confirm which ones or how much truth that has to it.
