Grandson and Salmon
« on: August 20, 2015, 10:38:57 AM »
On the last day of vacation fishing last Saturday, and asked our grandson what he wanted to fish for, Salmon or sea bass. Jase chose salmon, so across the Westport Bar we go. After a nap on the boat, (Jase not me) we get into the fish. Both native and hatchery. We bring to the boat about 15 or so salmon just to get our 4 silvers. Jase was fighting our 3rd hatchery silver, he gets it to the boat, I have the net ready, fish is just out of reach, I tell him to lift the rod, fish still just out of reach. I tell him to lift the rod higher, fish is still not any closer. I tell him HIGHER, fish still out of reach, I tell him I need that rod up higher to get the fish closer to the boat. Just then I turn and look at Jase, (now you have to picture this) he has the rod held over his head with both hands, and a look on his face says "I can't get it any higher. I bust a gut laughing. He has this look like WTH I'm doing what you said. I'm laughing so hard, I drop the net to the boat floor, and Jase is just looking like WHAT? All this time this 8 pound silver salmon is going nuts. After regaining myself, I show him (for the umpteenth time) to just lift the tip of the rod, as high as he can. We get the fish in the boat, with my sides hurting.

My kids do the same thing.  After the third "higher" my daughter did go higher - the fish came out of the water, thrashed and spit the hooks back into the boat.

Reminds me of when my son was little he was at the neighbors playing baseball and I was watching from our deck, Someone hit the ball and started telling Kyle to run home so he did right up on our deck.
