What rifle to put this scope on.
« on: September 24, 2015, 07:58:20 PM »
Curious to hear some input. I have 3 rifles that need scopes and 1 scope. Which one would you put where. I have a new 4-16x42 Vortex scope. I have a .30-06, a .280 Remington and a .22-250. Where should I put the scope?

which one do you want to shoot the most? you can always pull it off and put it on something different. I have the 4-16x 50 vortex crossfire on my .22-250 Id say put it on the .280

.30-06 is a very versatile gun, it will kill everything your hunting.  If I had to make one choice, it would be that gun.

I would like it on the 22-250 and a little less scope on the other two, or get one for each that is a good scope, I see your dilema

I think it depends on what you're planning to use each rifle for and what type of terrain you'll be hunting.  The 4-16x42 vortex sounds like a good match for the .22-250 if you're going to use it for varmints and coyotes.  The other two calibers are usually better suited for elk/deer and you may not need the 4-16x42 in that instance unless you're looking to reach out to 350-400+ yd. shots.  Just my thinking.....

I already have my main big game rifle dialed. .300 win mag with a 4.5-14x50 leupold vx3 on it. Each one will have a scope at some point. Baby steps. I've played the shuffle the scope around game. Just want to get everything set up and not mess around with them anymore.

Another disclaimer I guess. Not that it matters really. Each different gun is just a different barrel for my TC Encore system.

Seems perfect for the 280 to me  :twocents: does that scope have the option for custom turrets?

It has the dead hold reticle but I don't think I can do custom turrets.

I'd say .280.
Or put picatinnys on each rifle and use it on all 3.

I have an EGW rail on every barrel now, but I don't want to have to adjust the scope every time I change.

If you hunt with the .300 that is already set up, then the 22-250 would be the most logical...., because the 280 and 30-06 would not likely get shot if you are using the 300 as your primary rifle/barrel.  .22-250 I would think you would be more inclined to use for varmint/coyotes, etc.... over the other two options.
