How to get access to hunt yotes on private land
« on: August 31, 2015, 01:26:47 PM »
I am in Moses lake for flight school at the college and I am trying to get into hunting so I have something to do other than studying and working my life away. All the public land I have been to has signs of heavy hunting and I have yet to see any yotes but I hear them. i guess my question is how do I know who owns what property and what kind of property should I be looking for?
Thanks in advance,
Nick

I'm in the same boat as you, but i'm also not local to the area, the county office should have land ownership maps i think, you can also reference Dept of Fish and Wildlife go hunt page, this might provide at least access points for you to scout at on public land.

Plenty of places near Moses Lake to shoot yotes. Knock on a few doors of a few landowners with promising land. As long as you don't shoot their deer they'd appreciate help with predators.

Best info for you is to go up to a rancher/farmer, working outside and ask them. Almost 100% yes, they'll let you kill any and all vermin. Also, Swanson Lakes Refuge south of Creston/Wilbur area. it get hits pretty hard, but it's fun. Just don't drive into the mud roads, not good at all.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

But where are the ranches at that would want their coyotes shot? I drive around a lot and have never seen anything promising

Promising or not stop and ask, the worst they can do is say no. Do it enough and you'll get a yes.

Think you'd be surprised at the responses you'd get by asking the ranchers who have cattle in their fields. Winter time when the cows are calving is the best time to ask. Some ranchers want the coyotes to keep the ground squirrels killed, so they might not let you during the summer. I, myself, just drive really slow up to a house and hopefully not get shot at, and ask the first person who approaches you. Start at the Swanson Lakes Refuge. There plenty of ranches out there.

Knock, Knock! Hello my name is_________ I was wondering if you own this land over here. Would you allow me to try some predator hunting on your property?
