my black mouth cur
«

I have been researching Black Mouth Curs for a couple years now, I had the breed pinned down as the perfect fit for my family. I called a breeder in Georgia with intent of getting a pup shipped to me and she gave me the number for a guy here in Washington who had a litter of 3 week old pups!!
I went to meet the pups ASAP and put a down payment on my boy. He got his female from out of state and drove her to Montana to breed. He had done a lot of research on the bloodlines. The next 4 weeks seemed like a year....but finally I got to bring him home. All of my research paid off! He is the perfect dog. He has the natural instinct to be a hunting dog, he is eager to learn, smart, easy to train, good looking, great with the kids and has the perfect temperament. Black Mouth Curs are literally the perfect breed for the outdoorsman with a family. So here he is, Trigger, he is almost 5 months old. I want to get into coon hunting, I've done tons of research on youtube but any tips would be greatly appreciated

Pick up the book Walk with Wick. It gives some great tips and insight about coon dogs.
I have a 6 month old Walker/Bluetick that i am starting to work with.

Want more fur? Hunt a cur.
Nice looking cur. Bart has a very nice cur, she is one tough gal! One thing on Walk with Wick books, coonhounds are not curs and visa versa. Great books, just keep that in mind while reading them. My opinion hounds can have a little more pressure applied without any ill effects. Most curs I have been around are smarter and tend to be a little more sensitive. In other words where you might have to really get on a hound, generally you can get your point across with a cur with a look or a voice change. Good luck with him. Also be careful who you hunt him with and make sure their dogs are not ill at all.

He is a great looking pup. I have owned two bmc's in the past they are great hunting dogs. After they passed on I got a catahoula partly because I was having a hard time finding bc pups in the state.

Excellent choice! I've owned a BMC for 7 years or so now and I can't imagine how any other breed could be more of a perfect fit for me and what I do, especially in a state so prohibitive on hunting with dogs. It amazes me that so few people know about such an outstanding breed.
