Rosie Rub Tips
« on: September 18, 2015, 07:35:56 PM »
Today we saw a MASSIVE rub on an old logging road. We kept walking down the trail hoping to find a herd. We never saw anything. Should we have have stopped and called/waited?

It just means there was a bull there at one point in time. Doesn't really mean much. Was there fresh tracks/ sign all around? Was it still wet with sap dripping? Unless you could tell it was made within a few hours I wouldn't put too much stock in it.

I found about 4 of those areas this weekend.  I call them bull bedrooms.  My inexperienced hunter theory is that that's where the bulls go to be solitary before they start searching for cows.  That's where they rub their velvet off and get all worked up.  I don't want to steer you wrong but based on sign, i don't think they go back to them inside the rut unless the herd is just passing through.  I could be wrong though and it could be that you'll find a bull w/o a herd in some of those spots.  It's worth a shot sitting tight and calling for a half hr imo.  We tried w/o success in all 4 spots.

We hunted and called that area for a while. Nothing.
