HELP WANTED
« on: September 16, 2015, 09:54:30 PM »
So I have been chasing bear on JBLM(Fort Lewis), since bear opened. I've tried sitting over berries, calling(probably doing it wrong), and walking around. I'm seeing TONS of scat, nice big piles. I think I'm doing the right things, but what else is there to do?

Try not calling, go to a sign heavy location and sit. Early morning late afternoon evening show. Play the wind.

What are you doing for scent? Bears have an insane sense of smell.

Remember they have sense of smell twenty times better than a bloodhound. Run your washing machine empty a couple times then wash your hunting clothes without scented detergent. Cut up a bunch of brush and bag your clothes up in with it for a couple days even your underwear and socks. I got within 60 yards of one on JBLM this year before I got winded. They can even smell what's on the bottom of your shoes. Some people say to chew mint gum also (?) If you're interested PM me and we can compare notes. There is sign in almost every training area I've been in but a couple good spots, and I almost hit one with my truck the other day. Had to slam on the brakes so hard the dog flew into the front seat.

For scent control I use the super charged scent cover(I believe that's what it's called. Scent cover spray in a yellow bottle. I spray all over myself, my clothes and the bottom of my boots.

I think that's ok if your hunting elk and staying downwind. I don't think it'll cut it for bears.

I'll have to give that a try. At this point, I'll try anything.

also meant to tell you I see them all times of the day this time of year. They are feeding like crazy to prep for winter. So I don't just think dawn and dusk when I'm looking for bears this time of year.
