Bugling when wolves are present

Does anyone know how Bull Elk react when wolves are in the neighborhood? Last year I heard many Elk bugling in the Rimrock Unit, this year we got a later chance to catch the rut yet heard zero Elk.  Found out that wolves are now actively hunting in that GMU now.  Maybe they were there last year but I found a whole lot more sign last year?  Just a curiosity question

There's no wolves in this state just big coyotes

After our experience this weekend I would highly recomend packing a side arm (for protection).if there in the area and u call u could be way to close to the big coyote and half to head back to the truck in a hurry if u don't want a confrentation.

I mentioned this in another thread, but I had a bull going hot and heavy last week.  At the first howl he completely shut up for the rest of the day.  Every time we bugled the wolves would howl all around us.  We both had sidearms, but it was still pretty crazy.

Where both encounters in the Rimrock ?

We were up in the same unit all last week and heard multiple Bulls bugling on several mornings. No bull tags so we just enjoyed the concert. We were also the only ones in our basin.
As for sidearms, just more unnecessary weight (to me) to haul up the mountain.

I've been walking up and back through the dark for a number of years and haven't felt the need to carry the extra weight. Maybe I'm not man enough?

Though I did feel a little twitchy a couple of times as I lay on the ground at my treestand waiting for 5:45 to arrive so I could climb up and wait the next 30-45 mins til shooting light.

Reminds of the tools we met in the Cowiche late hunt last year that were convinced wolves were running the elk. Had even seen their tracks in the road! Yea, we saw those tracks too. Made by the dogs that were running alongside the kids being towed on sleds behind the truck.

we were hunting 328 in a steep thick draw and I decided to cow call, big mistake.immediatly got howls back way to close and more then one.proceeded back toward the truck and after a while called again, they were closer. So we shut up and straight back to the truck.daughter with me equals go to different area.never saw them but tracks and howls are close enough for me.

Were you hunting the western side of the unit? I hunt the eastern portion of the unit and have never heard or seen sign of wolves in there. Have a buddy who swore he saw one years back but we chalked it up to the JD.
