How is the hunting going in the Taneum?
« on: October 01, 2015, 11:29:37 AM »
I have not seen any success stories out of the Taneum from archers or muzzy hunters?  Are the elk not there?  Praying for snow before modern rifle season.

Praying for snow before modern rifle season.

It'll take a lot of praying for that to happen..........

My dad drew a modern rifle cow tag in Taneum so it should be an adventure trying to figure out where the elk are in there

They are way up high never had to leave their summer range last fall there was no snow to push them down so that's where they stayed

Thanks coachcw and sebla.  I was kind of figuring on that and since it appears we will have another mild weather pattern during season according to the predictions not much chance of new animals moving into the area due to snow levels.  Was hoping that the season being a few days later in the year we would have a better chance of snow in the higher elevations driving them down.    :bash:

They're around. My dad and I got the job done on Saturday up there on one of our cow tags. We hiked way back in on a particular creek we'd been wanting to hunt. Bulls were very vocal where we were at. It was just a matter of picking the right hunt that wasn't going to kill us, so we let one of them come to us. Ended up sitting on one of their trails they had used earlier in the day down by the creek and waited it out. 4 hours later, a lone cow came right to us looking for water. Game over. We got her back to the truck just after dark. Very sore the next day, but well worth it. Extremely fun hunting for only being out there a couple days.

Nice Work! I was up there today with my muzzy cow tag and saw a nice 6x6 but there was a pretty good rain/wind storm going and he winded me before I saw any of his cows.

The wind messed up several of our hunts. It was swirling the whole time. Seems like every time we had a plan to approach them with the wind in our favor, it would change on a dime and blow right to them. Waiting for them down in the hole where the wind wasn't as much of a factor worked like a charm. Good luck if you're still up there!
