Whitetail area advice
« on: October 01, 2015, 01:00:35 PM »
I'm trying to finish my WA deer slam by getting a whitetail for modern.  We are going up to Cusick, and plan on hunting the east side of Little Pend Oreille refuge.  Is that a good place to start?  Land around the riverview bible camp looks good to me?  If anyone needs Blacktail advice I'm willing to help.

Id suggest avoiding 121 and 117 unless you have access to a big chunk of private land.  With the 4x restriction dropped this year these 2 units are going to be a freaking zoo during modern.

The roads will be busy.

Also keep an eye on where you are if you end up too far to the west you'll end up in the Parker Lake area 1031 if memory serves me correct the power lines to the west is the dividing line.  I would look it up to be sure.

Although I have never hinted that far north, In my experience in southeast corner of the state, whitetails prefer agriculture fields near rivers. They like any kind of tree stands and I would look for terrain features that give them a sense of security. Good luck, have a safe and successful hunt.

 :yeah:

Plus all the areas that were burned will concentrate the hunters even more. I am not looking forward to a busy year chasing trespassers..

So..... many gates are still closed, the earth is parched, the weather is wrong for deer hunting, and we expect serious crowding.  Better be first in line road hunter or else you wont see a thing through the dust.  Atvs will be a dust bath.  I see many disappointed hunters in the general modern season here in 121.  Then theres the bunk people are being fed about how many deer are available...........We are still not up to where we were before winters of 07/08.
