1911 80% lowers looking for a write up in kit comparisions.
« on: October 04, 2015, 04:07:55 PM »
Ive seen some write ups on the different AR jigs out there, but have not found any on the 1911 that are being made out there right now. Can anyone direct me to a good article or forum?

This one seems pretty good for the AR based discussion. www.80percents.com

I am kinda already involved in a 1911 80% build right now. I did quite a bit of research before I bought any jigs or tooling. Unless you have access to a milling machine, you are limited to just a few options. The most reputable 80% manufacturer out there right now is "Tactical Machining". They have there own web sight. But who doesn't these days. They do AR-15, AR10, and 1911 80%ers.
Like I said the best way would be a milling machine. If you don't have one of those, Youtube has videos of a cutting tool on a table router to make the side rail cuts. What I did was I bought a tool from "Stealth Arms" called the "Phantom Jig". here is there web sight with a video on how to use there tooling. http://stealtharms.net/1911-phantom-jig/. It does work. You just have to be very patient and take your time. As far as the Basic Jigs to drill the two holes at the rear of the frame. They are all located correctly, it just depends who makes them. Tactical Machining makes a jig but that is the top dollar jig. I would cruse the classifieds at Calguns.net. They have jigs pop up all the time and some are unused. That is where I bought my 80% jig. The basic 1911 80% jig is going to be the same no matter who makes the jig. Check out Youtube and watch the videos on building a 1911. Hope some of this helps.
