the river where I'm getting the rats has rissen over 3"  the drought is getting more and more less obvious and ponds are filling back up as well.   I've got some beaver spots on the river too but I'm hoping to learn a little more before I trap those.   Good luck this season bud!

They are calling for 1/4" of rain tomorrow in my area. Going to be a wet check tomorrow!

No critters today but it rained heavy all night. Beavers in pond 2 decided to set a trap for me last night. Hawthorne branches all over the trail I come in on. Got a thorn right there my hip waders and right in to the side of my foot!  They finished taking down a Hawthorne that's just behind my set and my trap was lifted up and sideways. I think they went under it!  May have to move it a little shallower in the run. This family is busy and don't seem to mind all my activity there. They also cleaned out some of my fencing and looks like they are digging a new run to the new hut being built.   Think it's time for some swim threw's for this pond. It's so deep in most places I can't figure out how else to set these tunnels they are running.  This used to be a mining area and this pond looks very deep. Water is black as night.  With the floating grass matts it's hard to even guess where the shore starts and the floating mass begins. Areas that look like they should be shore line are way deeper that the 10-12' pole I was using as a depth checker. Wish I knew how to scuba dive I'd love to see what's under all this grass and fallen trees engulfed in grass.   Patching my boot and working on traps tonight

Today I pulled all but my cat trap.  Had a beaver blow out a door on my beaver colony trap. I thought those things were bullet proof after the last time I beefed them up. Tomorrow I will start bullet proofing my beaver colony's and turning the big one to a power door swim threw.  May also reset the muskrat colony's on the lake before ice starts to lock me out.  Found cat tracks not far from my trap so I'm sure it's in the area

Still just the bobcat trap out. Boss sold another job so I've been busy from before sun up to after sun down working. Powers been off for going on 3rd night. Check my trap in the dark is a pain but I still race down that gravel road to see if today is the day lol. Hoping to re set all the muskrat traps this weekend.

Just about finished our last job of the season. Sunday I plan to reset all my colony traps and get started on the beaver traps. Power is back on and no broken pipes  weathers getting colder next week should be priming up those furs.  Seen a raccoon hit on the road yesterday that looked pretty fured up

Rebaited my bobcat trap with muskrat yesterday. No activity yet. Got one colony trap out that was moved out of the way and pushed up stream. Reset that and anchored it better. Ended up helping jackalaroo get set up for her archery deer so I didn't get all my colony's out. Saw a weasel all white by pond number one which Is all iced up already. Not thick bout 1/8"+.  Pond 2 is iced up too but the beaver are keeping spots open.   I've noticed a few good raccoon trees nearby and where I walk in and tonight I found a trail in the frost going threw a large covert that is dry( I think it's for over flow if the creek floods.  Deffenetlly has traffic threw it so I put a raccoon set in it tonight. Baited with a peace of herseys bar and licorice and some water Mellon sour patch candys my daughter left in my back seat.  We'll see if it gets any action in the morning.

Had my first non target catch today.  He seemed happy to get back to what he was doing. Took off like greased lighting.

Pulled my sets today and my bobcat trap was froze up. Not the door or the triger but the floor. Frost heaved the soil I bedded with up so high the door could not budge but a half inch. Whole area is froze up pretty good now

My davenport trip got canceled  ;(   Then I got work. Well I'm finially getting my traps back out slowly. Re set my bobcat trap today right off a set of bobcat tracks. They were traveling as a pair. I had some old pond liner left over from a water feature job so I used that as a trap cover to keep out the weather.  Also set a coon trap not far away baited with sardines and marshmallows and also covered this one in pond liner.  Helping jackalaroo with deer hunting tomorrow and sat so can't set any more traps till Sunday. Weathers warming up for a bit and water levels are continuing to rise   :IBCOOL:  beaver ponds are iced up heavy so I plan to move to the river till break up

This morning I had a large marshmallow missing from my coon set. I'm thinking it could have been a mouse tho. Snow was crunchy this morning so I couldn't find any tracks.

Think I finished my swim threw tonight.  12x16x48 I'm sure there is room for improovment but I think it's ready for a trial run. It worked flawlessly on my work bench few dozen times with out a single cough.  Also started putting these swivels on my large traps to  make tethering them off simpler. Hopefully I'll have a beaver soon 8)

Found some cat tracks today larger than the two that where running together on Thursday. So next on my list will be another cat trap

Got another coon set out today. Right next to the river. This is a spot where there are crayfish legs all over the stream bed an lots of little trails all around threw the brush.  Also set my swim threw but forgot to take a pic.  Got mouse troubles at coon set #1 I may move that one to the river tomorrow. Took some pics of pond 1 when I walked by
