Hunting prospects near the recent burns
« on: October 05, 2015, 08:57:03 AM »
Okay..
So as the title states ..I am going to my cabin near Tonasket to hunt for Mulies.
Turns out my cabin is between 2 fires..the tunk block and the north star.
Where the "vee" is between them.
Seems my cabin was spared..but the national forest above and behind didn't fare so well.
As of this posting the roads to the national forest above me..the unburned part..are closed to access.
That is the place I hunt the most and have seen the most sign.
2 questions..
1.) might the wildlife move to the unburned "vee"?..possibly putting them at my doorstep as it were?..
2.) are there any locals ..local to the tonasket area. that know for sure if the roads are closed.
Thank you for reading this ..
And move it if it is not in the right place.
Or I may have to hunt up around Bonaparte  lake with the 1000s of other hunters.

The deer that remained in the area are congregating in the unburned areas for food/water and shelter.
Example: The circle fields by the tunk rd already have deer hanging out in them daily, and at night there are quite a few in them.

I would check with the tonasket ranger staion on road closures, last i read all Nat forest roads south of 20 in your area were closed.

As far as the fire flaring up, you should be just fine...keep thinking rain and snow..

No deer around Bonaparte.... :twocents:
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.
