Who hunts rabbits?  Why, Wile E. Coyote does!

There are a fair number of people on this forum who chase coyotes around this time of year. I find it pretty fun, but it takes a bit of gear to "get in the game" (as that was my experience, YMMV). I've bought calls, camo, long underwear, a new gun (I needed one anyway  ;) ), and DVDs.  It is a challenge. Check it out.

I have all the stuff already for yote hunting.  The ruger 10/22 would be the most likely candidate, as the 300 weatherby os a bit heavy (although Im curious to see the 130 grain results on a yote as opposed to a 180, it may not expand fast enough to do a lot of damage though).

I have killed yotes before but Ive never been out solely for them.  A snare is a good way to catch yotes, but theres no snares or foot traps here, and the fur prices are lower than they used to be from what Im hearing.

You will probably find consensus that .22 LR is a totally inadequate cartridge for coyote.  You might put one down, from a close shot, but it probably isn't the ethical thing to attempt.  Lots of hunters will use their deer rifles on coyotes, especially if fur is not a concern.

I am looking at getting a 22.250 or soemthing larger than 24 caliber but havent bought one yet.  The weatherby would be too much I think, but Ive been thinking about the 130 grains on them.

I used to carry a ruger 10/22 when trapping and plug them up close with that in the head.  Ive killed coyotes with it before while hunting squirrels back east.

Part of why I havent gone out for yotes here is because I dont feel like I have the best gun for them.  I have a shotgun too and Ive seen several people here use it for them with buckshot.  Shot yotes with buckshot before out of a tree stand plenty times in the swamp.

You will get lots of opinions from forum members, and all of them will be 100% correct.  I just chose a 204 Ruger for my coyote gun, but no one ever regretted getting a .22-250 for varmints, and the .223 is very, very popular. A .243 is also considered a fine choice.

I have only killed one yote and it was with a .22 mag at about 50 yards. Shot it twice behind the shoulder and he was a good as dead.

Frankdown what kinda bullets are you shooting out of that .300? If they are the Tipped Triple Shocks then it shouldn't tear up hides too bad becaue that is a slow expanding bullet. Of course you want avoid hiting any bone at all.
