My awesome first deer!
« on: October 19, 2015, 09:19:26 PM »
Many of you know my dad Lokidog. I am his 12 year old son. I started hunting last year in Eastern Washington, but I was unsuccessful. This year I decided to hunt using a crossbow. Why a crossbow? Because I don’t really like all of the kick and noise made by shotguns and muzzleloaders (I am in a firearm restricted area. :P ). My hunting began with dropping apples every day at a neighbor’s property. The first day of hunting began with (obviously) waking up at the crack of dawn to go sit in a blind with my dad for 4 hours. The first day was pretty uneventful, there was some noises (mostly made by me) some reading, and some sleeping.

The second day though, was a lot more eventful. I had a sailing adventure in the morning, so no hunting then. In the evening (about 4:00) we arrived at the blind. We saw a couple does, but around 6:30, a doe walked in front of the blind, and following her was a HUGE fork with browtines. I quickly aimed behind the shoulder and pulled the trigger. The next few minutes was a blur of tears, adrenaline, and excitement. My dad decided to reload just in case, and about 2 minutes later a smaller fork walked in to shooting range, and we got a double! More excitement and adrenaline followed until my mom showed up. After that we followed the blood trail. We dragged him back to the clearing, and started following the other deer’s extremely long blood trail. Sadly though my dad never found his deer.  :'(

DUDE!!!!  Awesome deer, and nice story!!!!!  Remember though, you're never too old to hug your mom.
It is foolish and wrong to mourn these men.  Rather, we should thank god that such men lived.  -General George S. Patton
